Star wars videos: episode 2

Not so long ago, in basements, dorm rooms and anywhere with a decent pc, fans were slaving away making fan videos….. Guardians of the galaxy star wars trailer Mashup Alex luthor’s Mashup videos are always on point and pretty well done to say the least. This is no exception. When Guardians of the Galaxy was released it was hailed by some as the next Star wars, but we all know that Star wars remains the dominant sci-fi epic. So to put these two in one epic trailer makes for some entertaining viewing. Mad max/Star wars Mashup The popularity of the latest instalment in the mad max movies was sure to lead to this. Wookiee: Beard of the month

At last we have arrived in December. A years worth of cosplayers have com and gone. Some amazing. Some mediocre. But none of them Wookiee… until now! To start off, please can you just tell us a bit about yourself? (Who are you? Where do you come from? What are you made of?) Long ago, a wise old sage predicted the coming of a mysterious being -a mighty person born from pure fabulousness, destined to be the saviour of mankind. I am probably not this being. What inspired you to get into Big and Beardy cosplaying? Not much really. I’m big and hairy and I like dressing up but don’t have time or money to be fancy about it. So […]

Neverending Downloads

As many of you know, I recently purchased Fallout 4. It is a fantastic game. I absolutely adore it. But! There was one minor issue that got under my skin -the download. Granted it is the main part of modern gaming culture. But having to wait hour upon hour before you can enjoy your purchase is just heartbreaking. In fact, so much of our time is spent downloading the latest patch, fix, and update that we, particularly in developing nations, get far less time than we’d like to using our products. Hell, most of us usually get a few hours in on a Sunday afternoon unless there’s a large update that needs to happen first. Work it out. I have […]

Wookiee Wednesday Westwood Wonderment

Hey there kids, come sit round and listen to an old man grumble about the good old days of gaming. You see back before the time of you younglings, there was more to gaming than Call of Duty, DOTA, and World of Warcraft (and their numerous clones that you are now telling me are better for an infinite number of pointless reasons, that are meaningless to anyone but you). One of the absolute highlights of this golden (well I suppose Silver, Gold probably belongs to the NES) age of gaming was Westwood Studios, who until EA sent in their hordes of salesmen to ruin all their franchises, was one of the pinnacles of the industry. Founded in October 1985 (meaning […]

rAge Is In All of Us

“That’s how it starts. The fever, the rage. The feeling of powerlessness- that turns good men….cruel” – Alfred pennyworth Those are the immortal words uttered by Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler to describe the symptoms exhibited by individuals that have the rAge and are unable to go to The Dome . It is a condition caused by a symbiotie that turns its host into a rAge zombie whose sole purpose is to go to the Dome in Randburg where they revel in all the entertainment on offer there. First discovered in 2002, the rAge symbiote has infected more and more individuals with each successive year bringing its hosts together from all around South Africa. Although it might seem as though it […]

Has rAge Outgrown Itself ?

rAge is the premier event on the Johannesburg nerd scene, and has been a staple event for tech heads since the early days of my childhood. Initially a purely computer convention, featuring new technology and games that were on the way, it has grown over the years to include so much more. From comic books to cosplay, figurines to geek apparel, rAge truly has come to be the proverbial Mecca of the South African geek and nerd community. But has its grown too much ? Now before you all crucify me, let me clarify my point. I have been sitting here looking through the various posts from rAge, as one usually does after such events. I’ve been going through the […]
