Time Commanders

Anyone that knows me is aware that I am a fanatical study of military history. Granted, I enjoy history in general, but there is something captivating about military history. I do not think that there is a subject on Earth that has shaped the course of humanity like that of military history.   Case in point: if it were not for the Norman invasion of Anglo-Saxon England in 1066, England/English would not be what it is; the UK would not have been formed; the British Empire would not have happened and English would not be the most used language on Earth. Additionally, the USA, Canada, South Africa, Australia, India and numerous other nations would either not exist or would probably […]

A Handful of Halloween Facts

Tis the season to be jolly…wait that isn’t right is it? Well maybe it is if you are one of the many people who love Halloween and associate October with the ghouls, spooks and murderous villains. Today is Halloween, and while we are not entering autumn as our Northern brothers and sisters are, we can still take pleasure in mutilating pumpkins and dressing up in some of our favorite Halloween characters. While we in South Africa sadly cannot trick or treat, unless you are willing to climb someone’s barbed wire fence to knocked on their door, it is still nice to know a little something about this black and orange day. Here are some Halloween facts to kick off this […]

A Veterans Guide to rAge

With rAge just around the corner, I decide to do a survival guide of sorts for first timers going to rAge. This guide is composed of tips and tricks from two rAge veterans, one who will be attending rAge for the 11th year in a row and the other their 9th. Tip 1 – The first tip is often a well know tip and that is buying your tickets beforehand to avoid the queues upon entering the dome. Yet now you have this ticket but which entrance do you use? Well that depends on what day you go on. On Friday the best entrance would be the main entrance or entrance 1 as it has the most amount of cashiers […]

You Porn?

I recently watched an interesting British documentary about how modern children, some as young as five, have access to hardcore pornography thanks to our modern, online and interconnected world. For those interested the documentary ‘Porn on the brain’ can be seen here. Now after watching this documentary I decided to write an article on this concerning subject matter. Though, I am not a parent. Far from it in fact. Nor am I going to become one! So the only logical thing I could do was to speak to an actual parent and get some advice for you from them. Fortunately my good friend Pippa Tshabalala was keen to throw her weight behind me, my article, and share her thoughts with […]

Danny Mendez and UrbanJunglesRadio

We were fortunate enough to recently speak to an amazing individual and animal love, Danny Mendez. Danny and UrbanJunglesRadio are taking animal welfare and love into the 21st century. Would you care to introduce yourself? Absolutely! My name is Danny Mendez and I’m your friendly neighborhood Beastmaster and host of UrbanJunglesRadio. It’s my Zoo-Centric Podcast which is pretty friggin’ awesome if I do say so myself. What drew you towards the world of beast-mastery? It was the love for animals as a bored city kid that developed into a passion and soon an obsession. I noticed things growing up in the city that most people didn’t’ see with regards to wildlife which gave a huge appreciation for all things furry, feathery, […]

Learnfast Training

Anyone who knows me, will know I am always looking to improve my knowledge. I feel if we are no longer learning, then we no longer have purpose and are mealy wasting our existence. With this in mind one can understand why I was excited when someone put me in contact with Learnfast. Learnfast is a country wide institution that offers training in a variety of subjects relating to Computer Skills, Graphic Design, Business Skills, Accounting, and CAD. As an IT Manager who did my training back when the internet was in it’s infancy, I decided to take their HTML course to fill in some of the gaps in my IT knowledge. “It is not that I’m so smart. […]
