Call of Cthulhu (Video Game, 2017)

“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” – H.P. Lovecraft. I am a mere sacricolist at the altar of Lovecraft. His work has inspired my own short story series, as well as many of my other works. And I know that I am not alone in this. In fact, Lovecraft has inspired us more than any purely magazine printed author of all time. Naturally, his work has influenced film, music and video games. Now the latter of these have given us a few good scares over the years, but as of December 2017, those scares are likely to become soul destroying as Call of Cthulhu […]

The Evil Within 2

Right, well this is another game that was announced at E3. Welcome back, Sebastian. Welcome to The Evil Within 2. What we know of The Evil Within 2 is… well… very little to be honest. The game takes place some three years after the first one with Sebastian returning to STEM in order to find his apparently dead daughter. Like the previous game, The Evil Within 2 is set to scare the living daylights out of most people -especially fans of the first game.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus

Once again we are looking at another game that was previewed at E3. This time we look at another long awaited sequel, this is Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Now we know very little of this game, but as it is obviously the sequel to the amazing Wolfenstein: New Order, the game will naturally be set in Nazi ruled America, where you will take the role of Captain William Joseph Blazkowicz as he aides the resistance in their war against the Reich. (I get the feeling that they have taken a lot of influence from “The Man In The High Castle.” -Ed) Now like the previous games in the title the player gets access to all sorts of esoteric weapons, […]

Middle-Earth: Shadow of War

It has been a few years since the majority of the world was introduced to the world created by J.R.R. Tolkien. Since then, numerous games and more have been unleashed upon the world. This is Middle-Earth: Shadow of War. The sequel to Shadow of Mordor continues the tale of Talion -the human/spirit hybrid. In this installment, Talion creates a new ring of power that will either allow him to become a king, or to replace Sauron as the Dark Lord of Mordor. Unlike the previous game, Shadow of War will feature a more fluid action-adventure combat system instead of the traditional hack-n’-slash. Though the game will still be third-person. This game looks like a lot of fun, and it’s definitely worth […]

Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord

If, like me, you adore the Total War games, then you will have no doubt wondered what it would be like to play as a soldier on those glorious battlefields? Well, now you can. This is Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord, a prequel to Mount & Blade 2: Warband. Taking place in a semi-alternate world, the player takes on the role of a soldier fighting for one of eight factions. Now this fighting can take place upon vast open planes, in dense woodlands or as drawn out sieges. The player gets access to numerous mounts, armours and weapons. The game is set for release on PC at some stage this year.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance (Video Game)

Now a lot of people get their trousers moist the moment they hear that a new Fantasy game is coming out. There is something so endearing about wielding swords, firing arrows, and riding dragons. (Skyrim and co have entertained us for years. -Ed) But now something interesting has happened: someone has removed the fantasy element and given us a gloriously realistic Medieval RPG. This is Kingdom Come: Deliverance. The game has been produced by Warhorse Studios, and is their first official game -and it looks a monster. The game is set in the Kingdom of Bohemia (Now part of Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic) in 1403, where the player takes the role of a blacksmith’s son. The boy sees […]

Death Stranding

Question: What do you get when you take Norman Reedus and Mads Mikkelsen throw them into a massive open-world environment that is filled with action, adventure and danger; and then get Guillermo del Toro to direct? Answer: One of the most anticipated games in history. This is Death Stranding. Right, so we know a good deal about this game. For one, there is going to be a multiplayer mode. I’m hoping it’s going to be a little like F.E.A.R 3, only better. The game is based around a short story written by Japanese master Kobo Abe (7 March, 1924 – 22 January, 1993). The game is the brainchild of Hideo Kojima -the master games maker from the amazing Kojima Productions who have […]

A Few New Games

Another day, another list of games to go through. Yooka-Laylee: I adore platform games. There is something wonderful in running around like a loon, jumping over enemies, and scrambling over the environment. Case in point, Team 17 has recently unleashed a mental platform game upon the world. Welcome to the madness that is Yooka-Laylee. Cuphead: Now we’ve been waiting for this game for a couple of years; and now, after an eternity of semis, we shall finally get our hands upon the indie run-and-gun we’ve needed. Produced by Canadian’s Chad and Jared Moldenhauer this game -taking a lot of inspiration from 1930’s cartoons- revolves around a Cuphead, a character who has to fight a number of vicious enemies in order […]

Metro: Exodus

Well, E3 has come and gone, and in its wake we have been left a veritable smorgasbord of new games, technology and esoteric concepts. (MMO’s confuse Raven. -Ed) Now one of the games that has truly moistened a few pairs of Morph-Man’s britches is the long awaited sequel (Third in the series! -Ed) to the amazing Metro 2033 and Metro: Lastlight. This is *Insert drum roll here* Metro: Exodus. Now for those that have not played the Metro series let me give you a little background information. The games are based on the best selling novel series from Russian author Dmitry A. Glukhovsky, in which, as usual, the world has gone to pot and a small number of survivors are […]
