A guy called Casey Pugh tasked the Internet to remake Star Wars (A New Hope) 15 seconds at a time. It took months but the result was amazing!

A “Director’s Cut” has been released, which is basically a feature length remake of A New Hope made out of the best 15 second clips of the SWU project!

Now apart from the sheer awesomeness of the film, what makes it poignant right now is the whole SOPA/PIPA thing. The release of the Star Wars Uncut Directors cut basically gives us the greatest argument against SOPA/PIPA because something like this could never happen in a world with a censored Internet.

Well Anime Worx of course!

What started off as, for lack of a better word a-hole-in-the-wall, grew into what is now the place to go for the latest games; anime; comics; and general geeky merchandise.

And then they took it a set further… they turned it up to 11!

In a move akin to Captain Planet; the Power Rangers; and Voltron, they combined their powers different elements to form one almighty shop!

It’s still in Bright Water Commons, and it still offers all the great deals; advice; and range that you have come to expect, but now it is in a way more convenient location (their comic store) and they have removed the secret passage to the land of manga put everything in one easy to browse level!

It’s totally rad, and totally seems to be working as a greater variety of shoppers are perusing the shelves!

So if awesomness is what you want go check it out, but if don’t like bright light and the prospect of crowds best avoid… you troll!

They tend to suck you in and engulf you in a living world like no other game can… and then they steal your soul!!

And seeing that I quite like my soul, I avoid them at all costs.

However there is one that I do risk playing every now and then, and that’s Guild Wars, so yesterday when Kemza and I had a chat about MMOs and how he was planning on trying out DC Universe Online I had to come to the defense of my series and started rambling on about Guild Wars 2.

The reason is simple, Guild Wars 2 is (or at least, is going to be) different. It’s promising something that most other MMOs lack, it’s promising to be organic.

How you may ask?

Well instead of following the same MMO recipe, it’s going to give you a living world full of dynamic events; dynamic combat; and with doing away with your standard MMO archetypes, dynamic classes and team work!

I fear my dynamic description might have fallen a little short, so watch this instead…

Now after watching that, can you honestly tell me that you aren’t impressed and even a little keen to give it a go?

Assassins – they’re no secret

My personal relationship with the Assassin’s Creed’s franchise started with the highly original and novel parkour gameplay. Then, as I finished the first and second game, I fell in love with the spectacular story. Then Brotherhood swept me off my feet and took me on a whirlwind honeymoon to level 50 with incredible multiplayer online play.

But it hasn’t been all roses. I bet you didn’t even know about Project Legacy, Assassins’ foray into Facebook games (a-la Mob Wars/Farmville), and the nearly unmentionable DS platforming conversions. The Multiplayer Rearmed iPad game wasn’t terrible, but it was a shadow of its bigger brother.

News of the AC: Recollection ($0.99) game had been a long time coming. It was touted as a collectible card game (CCG) coming to the iPad. I played magic at National level up till the end of Urza’s Saga – So having the AC franchise in the same breath as “CCG” and “iPad”  made me giddy, but I approached the idea with a healthy dose of skepticism, after hating Assassin’s Farmville. When it finally dropped on iTunes, I contemplated whether it was worth $2.99.

Today, I can safely say that it’s worth much, much more.

Never have to buy card sleeves ever again

In short, AC: Recollection is to MtG what Amazon was for paperbacks. It’s not just simply the same CCG experience on iPad – it’s improved, it’s unique, and it’s most of all enjoyable.

I’ll not try to teach you to play the game now, but here’s a brief rundown: The game is a battle for influence over 3 regions, which you can achieve with agents (assassins, militants, nobles, beggars, street peddlers, you name it), sites (churches, towers, castles, boats), and actions (Espionage, thrusts, court orders) You pay for them with gold, which you rack up over time.

The game takes advantage of being a digital game by getting rid of the concept of taking turns – everything happens in real time, a timeline runs and you do your thing as the time runs. This setup manages to strike a perfect balance between traditional CCGs and real-time strategy games.

Beautiful

The game is presented beautifully – at first I was afraid (I was petrified) (jokes) that the game might suffer from a low production value as a dump for AC concept art, but it stands solidly on its own inside the AC universe. The card arts are all impeccable and the interface has all the correct nuances of the Animus that AC fans love.

And that was only referring to looks

The same word can be applied to the gameplay itself – the actually bones of the interface and game mechanic are also meticulously designed. Playing the game is so intuitive that you hardly have to remember much from the tutorial. This is one example of a game that was made uniquely for the iPad, and cannot be duplicated on any other system. There is rumour of a console version coming, and it would be interesting to see how the intuitive finger interface translates to a controller.

The game has incredible depth – it’s superbly balanced and every day we’re discovering new synergies and combos and ways to play the 200+ cardpool that’s in the first edition – and there’s promise of more sets, an Auction House where you can find and trade cards you need and cards you have excess of.

It’s actually difficult to imagine that this game is probably a couple months into its life and already has a well established community – the AC:R Board has heated discussions going on daily, and great information for beginners to learn the game with.

Fans of the Assassin’s Creed Franchise will also find an animated short story called Assassin’s Creed: Embers. It’s about the final moments in the life of the legendary Ezio Auditore.

Try it out, grab it for your iPad – at $0.99, it doesn’t hurt at all to experience another masterpiece in the Assassin’s Creed universe – as well as the next big thing in CCGs.

So here I am, back at the ol’ grindstone, but hey, what better way to start off the new year than playing NES games amirite?

Abobo, as some of you might remember, is the one tricky boss from double dragons. (Also, he’s pretty bad ass.) The story revolves around him trying to find his kidnapped son while travelling through a collection of iconic NES era game levels.

I could rattle on and on about this game, but what more do I need to say other than it’s free, and in plus minus a few hours, you can play it?
