Hit by the Rebels – Star Trek Online:
No matter under which rock, or rather how many rocks you have hid, you will undoubtedly have heard of the great Star Trek universe, be it the games, the series, the movies or the expansive Klingon language it features. There is no escape from it. Though you might, like myself, never have gotten very far into nor understood most of said universe.
Yes, I admit to not liking nor knowing much about the Star Trek Universe, however that won’t stop me from writing a little something about the Online Sci-Fi MMO RPG that has spawned as a result. Developed by Cryptic Studios in 2010, Star Trek Online (or STO for short) is one of many MMOs that still stand tall and steals time from most games world-wide.
According to the internet (thank Odin for Google): “Star Trek Online is set in the years 2409/2410, thirty years after the events of Star Trek Nemesis. The alliance between the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire has collapsed, and both sides are once again at war. The Romulan Star Empire continues to deal with the fallout of the loss of their home world twenty-two years earlier, while the Dominion rebuilds its forces. The Borg Collective has re-emerged as a major threat”.
While I have no idea what that means, but I suspect we must prepare to space battle with other aliens that aren’t as good as the ones who are aboard your own spaceship. Luckily our Captain Shadow (Grand Admiral Shadow. -Ed), of the SS Rebellion Boys took to the stars with his first-mate Wookiee to show us how to Star Trek in Style.
As far as an MMO goes STO looks to be tons of fun and almost interesting enough for me to look into. Should you have a stable internet connection and a desire to try a game based on the massive Star Trek franchise, this is as good a place to start as any. Oh nearly forgot the lore friendly reference that’s supposed to go here, “Live long and prosper”, or something.
