So by now we should all know that Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising is getting a sequel, but if you didn’t, it’s being called ‘Red River’ and it’s supposed to be way prettier (thank goodness because the last one was ooooogly) and the controls (like that radial interface thingy) are being tweaked. Apart from that you can still expect the same large scale environments (200km apparently) and military themed combat…
So what’s the problem?
Well in a recent interview with IGN the creative director of Codemasters’ Operation Flashpoint games, Sion Lenton, said that 90% of people who played it “thought it was something different but felt that it was really hard, that it was slightly obscure and difficult.” AND is now planning to make the series more “fun” by doing what Nintendo and Left 4 Dead did…
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!
I completely understand Codemasters aiming at the 90%, it just makes business sense! My problem is that the 90% exists!
I’m tired of games being dumbed down because some tool can’t handle a difficulty above normal or heaven forbid easy!!! Now the 1337 among us have to be given the lobotomized versions of our favourite titles because the mass market doesn’t have the ability/ball sack capacity to play games like they should be played!
GO HARDEST OR GTFO
I’m sick of it! It happened to Splinter Cell, now it’s happening to Operation Flashpoint (and I thought the Soldier Sim would be safe)… Next you’ll hear that GT5 is not going to allow you to switch the assists off!
What happened to the glory days? What happened to the days before save files and continues, when clocking/beating/finishing a title meant more than simply finishing the story, but the culmination of days/weeks/months worth practice and persistence? What happened to the days when immortality cost an arcade token?
I miss those days…
Now you have a bunch of “gamers” who “play for story”, who happily set difficulty to easy, making the cut scenes the focus and the gameplay a chore! If you want a story GO READ TWILIGHT YOU PRINCESS (except for Uncharted and Mass Effect those stories rocked!)
Doesn’t that 90% want to challenge themselves? Don’t they want the sense of victory when they have accomplished what they once thought was impossible? Don’t they want the approval of the gaming gods?
I’m glad I’m not in that 90% but rather in the “10% of people didn’t think it was hard enough”
Howard Lonstein put it best: “You want the battle sequences to be epic, you want to fight until you get twitches in your thumbs and you’re seeing double, you would like it to be an epic battle!” Talking about playing God of War 3 on it’s hardest difficulty
Despite all that, I am looking forward to Operation Flashpoint : Red River. I am going to have to cry in the shower to console myself though [think that South Park episode about the latest Indiana Jones movie]

Have…
Have a horrible day

My fucking god….I enjoy a good story but it feels so much better to get the cut-scene once you have played the game and you notice that your thumbs are worn to the bone and your crying in your own blood, shit and piss because you couldn’t move or look away and Im not even a great gamer. That feeling of accomplishment is slowly being stripped away by achievement hoars who want a bigger game score fast. I am annoyed.
Welcome to the world of modern gaming. Where the majority tend to be casual gaming mofos that suck the life blood out of industry. Think about your older console games where every baddie, bug and blade of grass tried to kill you. Now its all about hiding behind a rock until you hp regens itself.
