Kung Fury

“When I started this project over a year ago I was driven by a strong will, love for the 80s and action movies to create a unique movie that the world has never seen” – David Sandberg Some of our older readers may remember the ’80’s, for those that don’t, it was a time when being cheesy, and having bad hair were cool. And ’80’s movies were no exception. For Swedish film maker David Sandberg, the fact it is 2014 is no reason not to make an ’80’s movie. He has written (and stars in) KUNG FURY, an over-the-top action comedy featuring: laser shooting arcade-robots, dinosaurs, Nazis, vikings, Norse gods, mutants and a Miami cop who plays by his own […]

STAR TREK: MONDAY 30

“No, he’s clinging to life all on his own.” -Odo. Welcome back. It’s 2014 and today we begin another Star Trek: Monday. Today we look at the wonderful world of Deep Space Nine and in particular DS9’s chief of security, Odo. “Lose your eyes, take a deep breath. Clear your mind of everything in it – if there’s anything there… Breathe… breathe… Now, what do you see?” -Odo. Odo memes are few and far between. (Good start to the year, yes?) And as such we only have 2 in the box for you. This one, is a dual meme (We’ve seen them before.) In this meme we see Odo and Dax.  “There’s a list of names, Bajoran names, the one […]

Project G.e.e.K.e.R.

“An enemy is only a friend that wants to kill you.” -Project G.e.e.K.e.R. Running for 1 season of 13 episodes, Project G.e.e.K.e.R. shocked CBS and her viewers with its bizarre style, quirky humour and peculiar animations. Now 1996 was a long, long, long time ago for most of you; and as such I doubt many of you have seen Project G.e.e.K.e.R. So I shall give you a brief synopsis… and maybe a little more. “I’ve got an idea for a story about a guy in a yellow jumpsuit who’s allergic to floors.” -Project G.e.e.K.e.R. Created by American writer, illustrator, animator and musician, Doug TenNapel (Tommysaurus Rex, Earthworm Jim) and starring Billy West (Futerama, Ren and Stimpy.) The show, set in […]

An Early Look at SteamOS

What is SteamOS ? Most people out there have probably heard of Steam. But for those of you who haven’t, it is a software package created by Valve Corporation (Half-Life, Portal,  Source), initially as a DRM -patch delivery system for their games. In its early days many users outside the U.S.A did not have very powerful/stable internet, and the requirement of being connected to the Steam service whenever playing a game was not well liked. Over time connectivity improved and became less of an issue. Valve also began to convince other publishers to release their products over the Steam service, thus becoming an app store of sorts. As game/software purchases are linked to your Steam account, you can reinstall computer/setup a new […]

WELCOME BACK! WELCOME TO 2014.

“Hope smiles from the threshold of the year to come, Whispering ‘it will be happier’…” – Alfred Tennyson. Welcome back. It’s a new year, a new month, a new start and a fresh hangover. 2013 already seems like a distant memory. Last year was a year of great possibilities: We planted the seeds, nurtured them as often as we could, and now, after 365 days, those possibilities are beginning to bear fruit. “For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.” – T.S. Eliot. This year 925|Rebellion is going through a metamorphosis of sorts. We shall still be dedicated to all things Geek, but we shall be tumbling farther down the rabbit hole. […]

THE GOON SHOW!

“Splendid, lads. Tell me where it is and I’ll reduce your sentence from two years to four.” – Seagoon. Haaallooooo everybody! Welcome to the first day of the New Year. That’s right, it’s 1951.. or it should be. For 1951 was the year of the Goons. Can you believe it’s been 63 years since the splendid Spling-splang-splong began? Where has the explodable cardboard cut out time gone? Well let us start by walking backwards for Christmas, across the Irish Sea, and thus see if we can find… “THE LOST GOONS” (Drum roll, please.) “Well, sir, it’s like this, see. At 12.30 a monster lorry draws up outside, ten men jump out and wallop me on the head. I turn round […]

Total Annihilation – A Legend Going Strong!

“What began as a conflict over the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machines escalated into a war which has decimated a million worlds. The Core and the Arm have all but exhausted the resources of a galaxy in their struggle for domination. Both sides now crippled beyond repair, the remnants of their armies continue to battle on ravaged planets, their hatred fuelled by over four thousand years of total war. This is a fight to the death. For each side, the only acceptable outcome is the complete elimination of the other.” – Opening Credits. Released in 1997 Total Annihilation is approaching 17 years old now, yet is probably still one of the best most innovative RTS games ever made. […]

INVADER ZIM!

“What’s wrong with you? All you talk about is aliens and ghosts and seeing Bigfoot in your garage!” – The Letter M. For two years, 2001-2003, a large number of people lodged pencils in their brains, collected piggies (PIGGIES!) sang the “Doom Song,” and ran around in circles shouting “WEE!” The reason for this apparent mental break? Invader Zim! Invader Zim first aired on the 30th of March, 2001, on Nickelodeon, becoming an instant cult classic, thanks to its peculiar brand of humour, twisted plots, grotesque and fantastic characters, and all round sense of “WTF!” “Bwahahaha. Inferior human organs!” – Zim. For the dozen or so of you, who have never watched ZIM. I shall give you a brief background […]

The Desolation of Tolkien. (WARNING! SPOILER ALERT!)

Today we welcome a new writer to 925|Rebellion. His name is Wookiee, and like the fictional race, he is tall, hairy and makes strange sound effects when he communicates. So join me in welcoming the Manimal to 925. The Desolation of Smaug, second in the film series based on The Hobbit is now in cinemas. The Hobbit was Tolkien’s first published work (1937) set in Middle Earth. Any film adaptation of a book will never be exactly the same as the source for many reasons, and this film is no exception. Below is a breakdown of the major changes from the novel. (SPOILER ALERT!) Beorn’s Lodge: In the novel, Gandalf and Bilbo meet Beorn by themselves first, with Gandalf telling […]

STAR TREK: MONDAY 29

“Do you really think a child like this poses any threat to me? I’ve been fighting worse battles since the day I was born. When the doctors said I wouldn’t live past my first year, I proved them wrong. Even when my parents thought I was too sickly to be worth caring for, I survived on the streets. Even when my own ungrateful subjects forced me into exile, I refused to accept defeat. I certainly won’t surrender to this little girl! ” – Kes. Guess what?! Give up? I’ll tell you. This week is even slower than last week. Seems we’ve run out of Star Trek Voyager memes. “Why does it bother you so much when I call you ‘Doctor’? […]
