Geekfest 2015 – Part 5, aka Goodbye for now

And here we are, at the end of an amazing day. It’s just got 11 PM, and Wookiee and I have just finished our last drink at the banquette. (I had a Guinness. He had a coke. Thought you’d like to know.) As I stand here, the cold night air crawling across Hubbard Park, followed closely by a soupy fog, I think back over the amazing day that we have had, and sadly of all the events we have missed. That’s right. Even we have regrets. Even though Geekfest 2015, has been an absolutely thrilling event, and our writers have experienced a number of amazing and fantastic happenings, we couldn’t see everything we wanted to see. There’s a list of […]

Geekfest 2015 – Part 4, aka There was a food fight!

We wander around the venue for an hour or so, getting to grips with the locals, the “normals”, the unique shops, their deliciously naughty products and their diverse myriad of owners. Soon we have sampled a plethora of tasty items. We’ve explored everything from comic books to home made armour. We have been met by, and greeted with love, a legion of Andy. (See what I did there Rebellion Boys fans?) In the distance a horde is massing in front of a large bouncy bag, as a queue of loons is led around a corner, raised high above it on a magnificent steel structure -all shiny and sexual- and the flung from it with a fury or screaming hair and wobbly […]

Geekfest 2015 – Part 1, aka Rise and Geek.

Once again I am alive and awake before the first rays of sunlight pierce my curtains. Within a matter of some hours (Yes, I am a slow mover in the morning), I am dressed and preparing breakfast for the masses that will soon descend on my house; for today we must feast well and plan correctly as we shall soon be spending much of the day assaulting Geekfest 2015. As the crisp morning air bleeds into every gap it can find, crawling across the wooden floors and sending shivers up our malanky legs, the masses, my horde, have already begun to consume their fine repast. A monstrous meal worthy of Wookiee, has been dished out on this fine 4th of […]

The Mothertown

Some of you might recall that we spoke to British film director John Williams, last year. Do you recall that? Come on. Don’t lie. We know you remember that interview. It was legendary and stuff. Well today we review his interesting little low budget zombie film, The Mothertown. Now at this point in 21st century most of us have zombies coming out of our ears. And most of those zombies are blood soaked gits that ooze vileness. 20 what’s its later; Dawn of the you know what; Walking thingamabobs. You know the rest. Zombies! Zombies everywhere! But on occasion we get a truly entertaining bit of zombie humour. And this is one of those times. After all, when last did […]

Zombie Run South Africa

Today, fortunately for us, the zombies have decided to stop their relentless quest for brains and sit down and tell us a little about Zombie Run South Africa. Tell us a little bit about Zombie Run South Africa? Zombie Run is a popular concept overseas and draws great support. It’s a fun run, with a bit of a game, giving participants the opportunity to either be a runner or survivor, or a zombie. What inspired you to create Zombie Run South Africa? As a runner myself, I am always looking for new and interesting events to keep my sport interesting. I had seen this on international websites and loved the idea – so I decided to organise it here in […]

Which weapon would you choose?

Most of us at 925 love zombies. So today, to embrace that love, we speak to Paul Anderson, independent film maker and zombie fan. What can you tell me about your zombie series? The series is called “Which Weapon Would YOU Choose?” and each episode shows a different character, using one main weapon to survive. What was the inspiration behind it? The inspiration behind it was simply to get experience, get myself out there and meet other filmmakers in the area, while producing something i was enthusiastic about. How does your zombie series differ from others? It differs because one of the main remits was to invite other filmmakers to write and direct each episode, with myself producing. How […]

Zombie Film S.A.

Today we meet a local chap -Jarrod Saunders- who is producing short South African zombie films. Why a zombie movie? There are many answers to that question. One: because Zombies are relevant and trending. Two: because I wanted to do something a bit more fun with zombies and a Christian film (yes, this short film was funded by CVC Media, a Christian media company). Three: because it gave me a platform to experiment and do some of the weirdest things I’ve done in film so far. I mean there is so much stuff hidden in the short film that people haven’t seen or heard. For example, not many people notice the classic Frito’s jingle playing in the background of one […]

BEING A ZOMBIE: PROS AND CONS.

Most of us like zombie films, and zombie games. Hell, many of us have probably read zombie survival guides and dream of putting those skills to use. But what if you are on the other-side? What if you are a zombie? What would be the pros and cons for your new state of un-life?   PROS: 1: You can eat anyone! Whoever they are! Whether they annoyed you at school, or are simply a stranger trying to survive another day. That is of course assuming they are not undead like you. 2: You’ll never have to pay for anything that you might still be paying off. Though you won’t be able to enjoy your purchase. 3: You can feel NO […]

ZOMBIES: Fact, fiction, or theoretical possibility? PART 5

Rule 3 – “Always carry a minimum of 2 reliable, lethal weapons.” Welcome to this, the last in our five part look into all things zombie. Last week we looked at the end of civilization. In little over 38 days after initial infection, most of the human race would be some form of zombie, and the world we know would be gone. But what if you were one of the lucky ones? What if you survived, what would you do then? Well a number of people have given this a lot of thought. Over the past decade, dozens of books, manuals, videos, and survival kits have been created to deal with this possibility.  Rule 10 – “Only pull the trigger […]
