Why “The Walking Dead” kicks Romero’s zombie ass.
By : Sasmo
Now the title of this little page mentions the awesome George A. Romero who, as you will undoubtedly know, is the father of the zombie genre BUT (yes there’s always a but) have you, after watching one of his great films, wanted… more?
Am I being greedy? Feck no!
Sitting through the charater’s 1 and a half hour fight for survival, you start to grow fond of the “soon to be zombie lunch” survivors! But as soon as you are at the point in the relationship where you can say: “I love you half naked survivor girly”, the movie ends!! But apart from the heart break of losing your new found love, what about the other questions?
- Did they escape the zombie infested mall/military base/abandoned mansion?
- How will the world change now that it’s up shit creek without a paddle?
- How will the main characters change to survive in this brand new world?
- Will they meet others along the way?
These questions, and more, NEED ANSWERING!!
Thankfully though the Legendary Robert Kirkman has those answers!
Legendary Robert Kirkman (“Battle Pope” and “Invincible”) shot up as one of my favourite writers when he brought out his on-going graphic novel on the zombie holocaust “The Walking Dead.”
If you know it well done, (yes that’s aimed at you big boy), if not GTFO and buy the first volume!
The book follows local town cop Rick Grimes after he wakes up from a month long coma to find that the hospital he is sleeping in (free of charge, thank you taxes) is over-run by the undead and there is no nurse I sight! (American “Public Health Service” tsk tsk.)
So if you have lingering questions about the world post “Z-day” that have ever plagueing your zombie mad mind then for the love of Thor’s Hammer go and buy “The Walking Dead” and watch as main characters die left, right and center (kids too) and witness their slow descent into madness! And hopefully Kirkman’s retelling of Grimes’ story will help answer those nagging questions for you!

I’ve always appreciated Romero for what he’s done but I can agree, I’m always left wanting more. I don’t think your greedy at all – just have an insatiable zombie-like hunger… for more zombies.
Sir, I take offense to that. To compare me to one of the un-dead is blasphemy…..but I do love my zombies.
What a great resource!
